The Therapeutic Power of Art: Hosting the “Proaisthisis” Workshop – 2026-03-21

Art is not solely an object of aesthetic experience; it can also serve as a powerful medium for care, empowerment, and social cohesion.

With great joy and deep emotion, the Hellenic Diaspora Foundation hosted the experiential workshop “Proaisthisis”, an outstanding initiative by the “Gefyra” Therapeutic Community (Missolonghi Nursing Unit) in collaboration with the University General Hospital of Patras.

During this unique visit, the artworks in our collection were transformed into a field of introspection. Through dialogue, observation, and gentle guidance, a safe space was created where personal experiences could be freely expressed, demonstrating the therapeutic dimension of art in mental health. The sculptures became “living mirrors.”

Special mention and a profound “thank you” go to the Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Patras, Mr. Panos Alexopoulos, thanks to whom this remarkable initiative was realized, as well as to Ms. Apostolia Pastra, the exceptional workshop facilitator, who guided this experiential process with great sensitivity.
