Biography

Nikos (Nikolaos) Xenos was born in 1908 on Zakynthos, Greece. He moved with his family to Athens in childhood and, with the support of Alexandra Choremi, entered the Athens School of Fine Arts in 1925; he studied under Georgios Iakovidis, Georgios Roilos and Spyros Vikatos and graduated in 1932. He subsequently undertook study trips to Germany.

From the early 1930s he exhibited regularly: first solo show in Zakynthos (1932), followed by solo exhibitions at the Parnassos Literary Society in Athens (1936, 1939, 1970, 1976), and participations in the Panhellenic exhibitions (1938, 1939, 1940, 1948, 1952, 1957, 1960, 1963, 1971, 1973).

His work is recorded in public collections, including the Averoff Museum (e.g., The Acropolis through a Window, 1934), the Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa (G.I. Katsigras Museum), and—per published references—the National Gallery–Alexandros Soutzos Museum and the Athens Municipal Gallery. His career is also documented in international auction records, for example Christie’s listing The Acropolis, Athens (1949, pencil and watercolour).

He passed away in 1984 at Athens, Greece.
